As a little boy, I read Vogue. It was not the typical thing for a boy from the Shire to do, but I guess I wasn’t a typical boy. My older brother Billy and I adored glamour, and together poured over glossy magazines, and loved being transported to chic international places and exotic worlds. We would talk long into the night about how when we grew up we wanted to invent a store that offered all the things we saw and loved, and to design a most beautiful space to do it in.
That was the fantasy anyway.
25 years on, after a wonderful career in floristry in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, and having traveled the world from Paris to Milan, Cortina to Palm Springs, I‘ve returned to my roots to create “This is not a shop”. This little local Cronulla shop proffers all the things that make me smile - unusual plants and pots, dried flowers, fresh greenery, vases, candles and soap, driftwood and succulents, lights and lanterns, some art, mirrors, stools, books, and some up-cycled bits and bobs.
Fun, friendly, luxurious and lush, dreamy and distinctive, my aim is to take you on a voyage to somewhere else. Whether you’re spending 5 dollars or 500, I hope every single person that comes to visit feels joyful and special and takes away with them a little part of the love that I have put into creating this vision.
“This is not a shop” is an homage to a childhood wish and a dedication to the magnificent memory of my best friend and dear brother Billy.
“This is not a shop” is not just a store, it is an experience: a celebration of life, love, beauty and the making of magical memories.
